Hummingbirds live only in the Western Hemisphere — from Alaska to the farthest tip of South America. They’re fast, flashy and full of fire. but if you hold still long enough, you can catch them at Steve Betchkal’s program at the Augusta Library. Steve Betchkal is an Emmy-award-winning journalist from Eau Claire, Wisconsin, and the author of All of This & Robins Too: a Guide to the 50 or So Best Places to Find Birds in Wisconsin, Make Birds Not War, Wisconsin Birding Trails , Cat Tales, and Walk the Walk, Camp the Camp, Bird the Bird. An ornithologist and master birder who is fluent in bird – Steve has produced more than 350 stories about birds and travel for TV and print. In his 30 years as a professional journalist he produced 11,000 TV stories, and is the only journalist in Chippewa Valley history to win five Emmys and an Edward R. Murrow Award. In 2017 he worked in the Galápagos Islands for Lindblad Expeditions-National Geographic.
