Does Miranda’s family do enough to survive? Is there anything else you can think of to do that they didn’t?

I was amazed by how much Miranda’s mom had planned for the worst case scenario in having them stock up on supplies. It was too bad they had been so isolated that they didn’t know there was food being given away in town. Maybe they should have made a weekly visit to town even though it was 4 or 5 miles away.
